I Deserve Death But He Gave Me Life
We are all GUILTY of breaking God’s laws.
James 2:10 (NLT) For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.
Romans 6:23 (NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Luke 23:32-33 (NLT) Two others, both criminals, were led out to be executed with him (Jesus). 33 When they came to a place called The Skull, they nailed him to the cross. And the criminals were also crucified—one on his right and one on his left.
Luke 23:39-41 (NLT) One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, “So you’re the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you’re at it!” 40 But the other criminal protested, “Don’t you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? 41 We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”
We are all one of two criminals
- Criminal #1: UNREPENTANT
- Criminal #2: REPENTANT
Until you see your sinfulness you won’t see your need for a savior.
The second criminal deserved death but Jesus gave him life!
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
We don’t have eternal life because we are good; we have eternal life because God is good.
1 Peter 1:3 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
