Jesus was baptized as an example for us
Matt 3:13-15: Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
Baptism is part of Church life
Mark 16:15-16: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved.” Believe = to be persuaded, to place confidence in, to trust completely, Reliance upon, not mere credence (mental acceptance)
What is water baptism?
It is a death, burial and resurrection. We identify with Christ:
Romans 6:3-5: Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection
When can I be baptized?
Paul was baptized the same day he was saved:
Acts 22:16: And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
Love Joy Church has baptisms about 3 or 4 times a year. You can check our calendar or call the church for the next date.
On the day of your baptism, wear your normal street clothes to church and bring a change of clothes to wear in the baptismal.
What to bring: Bring a bathing suit, shorts, a dark colored T-shirt, and a towel.
Keep your change of clothes with during the church service. After worship and a short teaching on Baptism, the Pastor will dismiss you to the changing rooms. Attendants will be available to help you find your way. The baptism will take place during our regular church service.
T-shirts and shorts should be worn over your bathing suits. You will be completely submerged.
You will be helped to step into the baptismal tank (sort of like a hot tub) which is located in the center of our platform. The water will be warm but not too hot. The person baptizing you will ask you to give your name and a short statement about why you want to be baptized.
If you have any other questions, please call the church office at 651-0400.
“There are three things that spread the Christ-life to us: baptism, belief, and that mysterious action … Communion… And let me make it quite clear that when Christians say the Christ-life is in them, they do not mean simply something mental or moral. When they speak of being ‘in Christ’ or of Christ being ‘in them’, this is not simply a way of saying that they are thinking about Christ or copying Him. They mean that Christ is actually operating through them; that the whole mass of Christians are the physical organism through which Christ acts- that we are His fingers and muscles, the cells of His body. And perhaps that explains one or two things. It explains why this new life is spread not only by purely mental acts like belief, but by bodily acts like baptism and Holy Communion…God never meant man to be a purely spiritual creature. That is why He uses material things like bread and wine to put the new life into us.”
